Many Stratford residents commute for work to surrounding cities like London, Kitchener-Waterloo, and the GTA.
Driving is the only viable way to commute to K-W or London. Fortunately “traffic” is practically non-existent and it’s a beautiful drive in both directions, taking 30-45 minutes depending where you’re going.
For those of us who regularly go to Toronto there are five options:
Drive 7/8 to 401
-
- Fastest (unless there’s a traffic problem or bad weather) and most immediately economical
- 1.5-2.5 hours, again depending where/when you’re going
Take the GO train directly from Stratford
-
- New route started in October (2021)
- Experimental run with only one time in the morning and one at night
Drive to Kitchener and take the GO
-
- There are other GO station options but KW is the closest
- Very economical option
- More timing options than VIA or the Stratford GO
- Slower than VIA with many more stops
VIA train from downtown Stratford to Union Station (or other stations en route)
-
- About 2.5 hours
- No traffic concerns and excellent for getting work done on the train
- Very limited schedule options
- Depending how often you go, VIA Préférance Rewards or Commuter Pass can be excellent options
VIA train from Woodstock (thirty minutes away) to Union Station (or other stations en route)
-
- More schedule options than Stratford route
- No traffic concerns and excellent for getting work done on the train
- Depending how often you go, VIA Préférance Rewards or Commuter Pass can be excellent options
Pearson International Airport is 1.5 hours from Stratford, easily accessible through:
